Westford's History
1906 -
Five women formed a Sunday School class in a home on Green St. in Concord, NC. Ultimately, they desired to organize a Methodist church and bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to the western part of Concord.
1907 - The Methodist Conference sent Dr. & Mrs. W.C. Huston to help officially organize the Westford Methodist Church.
1908 - Land was donated on Office Dr. by Hartsell Mill and a white frame, wooden building was constructed. Rev. W.C. Jones was the first appointed pastor.
1941 - The original building was torn down and a new building was constructed by the men of the church with completion on April 4, 1943.
1951 - A separate Fellowship Hall was built next to the church. This was the first building to be built with borrowed money. It was paid in full by 1960.
1989 - All the Office Dr. buildings were sold while construction of the first phase of the current building on Highway 49 begun.
1990 - The congregation relocated to the current building.
1995 - The second phase of construction at the current location was completed which included a new sanctuary.
2003 - On April 27, the Family Life Center's opening celebration included a morning worship service with a nighttime talent show and sharing time of fellowship. Large banners, made by various groups, decorated the walls of the multipurpose room which was used for services while the renovations of the classrooms and Sanctuary was completed.
2004 - "Upward", a basketball program for boys and girls, was started in 2004 with 75 participants. It promoted character and self-esteem and included devotional time. The church and community enthusiastically supported this effort. By 2007, there were 275 players, 36 cheerleaders and 60 volunteer helpers.
2005 - A praise band, "Four13", organized in January, perform at church and other locations. This was also the first year of a Pre-School for three and four-year olds. The next year, a class for two-year olds was added. The program continues to offer many experiences and opportunities for learning.
2007 - New playground equipment was installed in March, 2007.
